A country club like no other
Over fifty years ago, George Mitchell and a small group of friends had a vision to create a unique tennis club that would promote fitness - at the time it was a risky venture to develop a country club without a golf course. he dreamed of creating a tennis club that would be celebrated as one of the best in the country.

in 1970, a group of women players led by billie jean king contacted gladys heldman, hrc member & founder of world tennis magazine, and in direct defiance of the usta, hrc hosted the first tournament of what would eventually become the highly successful virginia slims tour, laying the groundwork for women's professional tennis.
